Shao-Tong Huang is a Taiwanese trombonist and composer currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Trombone Performance at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studies with Jörgen van Rijen, Pierre Volders, and Remko de Jager.
He has gained international recognition through competitions of the International Trombone Association (ITA). In 2026, he was named First Alternate for the Lewis Van Haney Philharmonic Prize (Orchestral Tenor Trombone). He also placed Top 3 in the ITA Alto Trombone Competition at the 2025 International Trombone Festival and received an Honorable Mention in the ITA Gilberto Gagliardi Tenor Trombone Competition in 2023.
As an orchestral musician, Huang performs with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Orchestra and previously served as principal trombonist of the Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Golden Hymn Youth Brass Band, and the NTNU Affiliated Senior High School Orchestra. In 2023, he received a full scholarship to participate in the National Symphony Youth Orchestra of Taiwan (NSYO), where he was also awarded the Outstanding Performance Award.
Alongside his performing career, Huang is active as a composer and arranger. His string orchestra work Wind of Glory premiered in 2025 at the National Performing Arts Center in Taipei and Kaohsiung. His trombone quartet Poem of the Seasons won First Prize in the 2025 ITA Composition Contest and will be featured at the 2026 ITACC Winners Concert. In the same competition, his work Odyssey Trilogy was awarded Third Prize. His piece Victory March received Runner-up in the 2024 British Trombone Society International Composition Competition.
Huang has further developed his artistry through masterclasses with leading trombonists including Joseph Alessi, George Curran, Scott Hartman, Stefan Schulz, Ko-ichiro Yamamoto, Peter Moore, Peter Steiner, Bradley Palmer, Guillaume Cottet-Dumoulin, Dietmar Küblböck, and Jörgen van Rijen.
